I am an American born in Texas and have lived and worked in New York City, Bangkok, and Tokyo over the last 17 years. In New York I worked as an editor and proofreader for a legal publisher and for several investment banks including UBS, Citibank, and Morgan Stanley. I have also studied music for most of my life and have taught privately over the years. Wanting to try something different I taught English comprehension and music appreciation classes at a community school in Manhattan part-time also.
I lived in Japan for three years - until just before the tsunami last spring - in Urawa, Narimasu, and Nishigahara in Tokyo. I worked mostly in Shibuya and Ikebukuro. I think I have some Shitamachi spirit, having biked all over Sugamo, Yanaka, Akiba, Asakusa, and Ueno but I enjoy the new cities of Ebisu and Nakameguro as well. Of course, nothing is better than spending a day in Kamakura...
I started teaching online because I enjoyed the experience of meeting with, teaching, and learning from my Japanese students. I wanted a way to keep those friendships alive and hopefully to make some new ones too. |
