In order to participate in lessons on the Speak Eikaiwa site it is imperative that you have a good set of headsets.
Without any doubt, your call clarity will be much better if you invest in a USB headset, rather than the old two pin style audio headsets. You can get a set of USB headsets from almost any computer store, or you can even purchase them online from the Skype website.
Double click the Skype Setup icon from the directory you saved it to during download. If you get a security alert screen pop up then select "RUN" to continue with the install process. The Skype setup wizard will then appear and guide you through the rest of the installation.
After the installation completes you will see the Skype log in window. You will need to create a new account so click on "Don't have a Skype name?"
There is a Full Name field and a Skype Name field. Both of these names will be visible to other users so it is best to use a name that people can recognize you with. Your Skype Name is the name you will use to log in to the Skype interface with.
During this process you are going to be asked to fill in your email address. Your email address does not appear on your Skype profile and Skype assures us that they do not share the email address with any other party.
The following link has detailed advice for the various operating systems.
An important point you will want to check is whether your computer speakers are set to sound the ring alert when a skype call comes in. It is no good having the ring alert being sounded in your headsets, as when you are away from your computer you will not be able to hear it.
Getting your audio settings correct can be a little tricky, however the Skype system has a test call facility that allows you to record your own voice and then it plays it back to you to check everything is working correctly.
A word of advice. If you are having trouble getting the audio to work correctly, or if after you set it up all of your computer audio comes through your headset instead of your computer speakers, then turn of your computer, unplug your headset and start the computer again. When the computer has fully booted try plugging in the headset again and see how things are working.
The above link has lots of information regarding audio settings, so with a little tweaking you should be able to get it correct.
Click the details link next to the class you want to initiate and then click the "Call Me" button.
CAUTION: Never initiate a class by calling the student directly from within your Skype window. Classes that are not started from within or system cannot be paid. You will only receive payment for classes started within our system.
When the student answers your Skype call you can send them the class start link by Skype Chat.
Simply click on the student name in your Skype contact list in the Skype window and then click the chat icon.
