Skype is a little piece of software that lets you talk over the Internet to anyone, anywhere in the world for free.
Skype allows you to talk to any other Skype user throughout the world for
free and also any person with a land based or mobile phone for incredibly low
rates.
The Skype software is free to download, easy to set up and can be used with
a broadband Internet connection.
One of the most fabulous points about Skype is the call clarity. Once you have spoken to someone overseas on your Skype connection you will never want to use your usual Telco ever again.
What You Need
*USB headset ( two pin headset can be used, however USB returns far better
call clarity )
*Broadband Connection
*Windows2000 or better
In order to make a call with Skype you are going to need to have a headset connected to your computer. USB is the preferred type as it offers unsurpassed call clarity.
You can also spend a few extra dollars and get yourself a Skype ready cordless phone, however if you are going to be teaching English Conversation you will want to have both hands free to use your keyboard, so a headset is definitely the most convenient way to go.
You can get a USB headset from any computer store, and you will find the USB type are usually a little more expensive than the two pin type. A LITTLE ADVICE: Spend the extra few dollars! USB not only gives you better call clarity, but it also makes it possible for the incoming call ringing sound to be generated from your computer speakers. If you use a two-pin connector type headset and you leave them plugged in then the ringing sound will only be heard from within the headsets. (You will miss a lot of calls that way)
Specification:
A broadband connection (ADSL, Fiber Optic, Cable etc) is required. A slower
broadband connection will still give you good voice clarity however, if
you intend to use your webcam while you are talking, then the more speed
the better.
Windows2000/XP/vista or better、Mac OS、Linux、Pocket PC (Windows98/ME not supported)
